Intro
The shipwreck of Edmund Fitzgerald happened on November 10th 1975. The shipwreck took place on one of the Great Lakes, Lake Superior. 29 men were lost that night. There were no survivors and victims. The ship sank because of the bad storm. The SS Edmund Fitzgerald was found 530 feet deep in water broken in 2 sections. Both sections lie within 170 feet of each other. The ship was carrying 26,116 tons of taconite pellets. The Edmund Fitzgerald was headed from Superior, Wisconsin to Zug Island on Detroit River. The Fitz was only 17 miles away from “safe haven” of whitefish point. After the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald the safety of the traveling crew were paid more attention. The ship was being accompanied by Arthur M. Anderson throughout the whole journey but lost contact and radar when the bad storm started. The storm was the worst storm ever seen. The Fitzgerald sank so fast that many believe that the crew never knew what happened until it was too late.
